Global Sky continues childcare expansion with new centres in Gold Coast, Adelaide

Global Sky Group continues to broaden its childcare investments, announcing today the acquisition of a new centre in Gold Coast, Queensland, and two new centres in Adelaide, South Australia, as part of the Tokyo-based group’s expansion across Australasia.

On the Gold Coast, the newly acquired Mudgeeraba Early Childhood Centre at 148 Wallandra Road, Tallai, adds to Global Sky’s successful current Gold Coast centres. These comprise the Southport Child Care Centre and Robina Town Child Care Centre, both of which have undergone substantial enhancements since their acquisition in 2014.

Privately owned since 2008, the Mudgeeraba centre caters for children aged six years and under, with a philosophy of providing the highest level of quality care and education which Global Sky is committed to further enhancing.

In Adelaide, the newly acquired Nanna’s Child Care Centre in Hallet Cove was established in 1985 as the first childcare centre located in the coastal suburb south of the city. It comprises a kindergarten at 31 Camille Street for children aged 2 to 5 years, and a nursery at 235 The Cove Road for infants aged 2½ years and under.

Commenting on the new centres, Global Sky’s Managing Director, Ko Nagata, said they were important additions to the company’s growing network of childcare operators, with a shared commitment to child-focused learning.

“Global Sky has a core philosophy of developing sustainable community hubs, with a focus on generating liveable communities. We are delighted to welcome these new centres into our network and will be dedicated to ensuring the highest possible standard of care and support for the children and communities which they serve,” Mr Nagata said.

Similar to Global Sky’s previous acquisitions, the company will retain existing staff and management to provide continuity of operations, while reviewing areas for potential improvement, such as in enhanced processes and facilities.

“We are determined to work with existing staff and management to maximise the quality of education and care provided at our new centres, applying learnings from our existing centres and international educational experience. As per our current centres, the aim will be to receive the highest quality rating from government under the National Quality Standard,” Mr Nagata added.

Demand for childcare in Adelaide and the Gold Coast is expected to continue rising in line with forecast population growth in these major metropolitan centres. Currently Australia’s fifth-largest city, Adelaide’s population is projected to grow from the current 1.4 million to reach nearly 2 million people by the 2040s, while the sixth-largest Gold Coast is expected to expand from 515,000 people in 2011 to reach an estimated 866,000 people by 2036.

The acquisitions follow Global Sky’s entry into New Zealand in 2015, with its opening of a new childcare centre in Whitianga as part of the company’s international expansion. In Tokyo, Global Sky Education provides a range of English-language educational services tailored to Japanese businesspeople, casual learners and children, including a “Hello Kids” program for Japanese parents seeking an educational experience in Australia.

The Japanese government’s move to expand childcare support and enhance English-language learning has created growing interest in potential collaborations with overseas centres, including in Oceania. Global Sky has helped facilitate this through providing training for Japanese childcare workers at its Gold Coast centres, helping enhance intercultural communication and encourage the development of best practice childcare in both nations.

With operations spanning environmental solutions, education and food and beverage businesses in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the United States, Global Sky is actively working to add value to global communities, based on its philosophy of “Connecting the world for a brighter future.”
