‘Kia ora’ New Zealand as Global Sky expands international childcare offering

Dear Valued Clients and Friends,

Whitianga, NEW ZEALAND, December 5, 2015: Global Sky Group continues to broaden its childcare investments, announcing today the opening of its new centre in Whitianga, New Zealand as part of its international expansion.

Located at 16 South Highway, Whitianga, Kauri Learners Early Education is the latest addition to Tokyo-based Global Sky’s community businesses, spanning Japan, Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region, with a focus on developing liveable communities.

“Global Sky has shown a strong commitment to providing quality childcare across our operations, and we are very pleased to bring our model of child-focused learning to New Zealand,” Global Sky’s Managing Director Ko Nagata said.

“Having earned top quality ratings for our Australian centres, we are committed to ensuring the same high standard of care and support at our new centre across the Tasman.”

Launched in partnership with Sunnyside International, a specialist in English-language education licensed for International Baccalaureate studies, the new centre will cater for approximately 30 children aged from 3 months to 5 years old. The centre will employ five staff and a chef, offering nutritious organic meals sourced from the local community.

Global Sky welcomed dignitaries at the opening event including Mercury Bay Area School Principal, Mr John Wright, Sunnyside International School Principal, Mr Hisayuki Watanabe, and other local education-related attendees.

Commenting on the new centre, Mr Watanabe said: “We are excited to collaborate with Global Sky for the establishment of Kauri Learners Early Education in Whitianga, a rapidly growing town in the centre of the Coromandel District. We are confident that the international experience of Global Sky will be of great support in creating a successful education facility for the whole community.”

Global Sky Group’s commitment to quality childcare was recently recognised, with its Southport Child Care Centre in Australia earning the highest rating of “Exceeding National Quality Standard” from the Queensland Government. The achievement follows the successful redevelopment of both the Southport centre and the company’s nearby Robina Town Child Care Centre.

Global Sky has fostered tie-ups with Japanese childcare centres and teachers as part of its push to enhance intercultural communication, adding the knowledge gained from the world’s highest quality service culture to the innovative learning practices of its Oceania centres.

“New Zealand has a proud record of international achievement, not only in education but in other fields such as sport. Japan’s hosting of the Rugby World Cup in 2019 has put the spotlight on cross-cultural interactions and we’ll be pleased to gain new learnings from New Zealand – although our new pupils won’t be gracing the playing fields for some time yet,” Mr Nagata said.

With operations spanning environmental engineering, education, property, wine and community businesses in Australia, Japan and New Zealand, Global Sky is actively working to foster greater international understanding, as part of its commitment to sustainable development.

‘Childcare centre adds Japanese know-how’ Gold Coast Bulletin, September 14 2015

Dear Valued Clients and Friends,

The below article was published by the Gold Coast Bulletin on September 14, 2015:

TOKYO-BASED Global Sky Group has expanded its Queensland investments, opening its second childcare facility on the Gold Coast.

Managing director Ko Nagata said the company had established the Southport Child Care Centre at Scarborough St, Southport, previously trading as Little Feet.

The new centre adds to Global Sky’s Robina Town Child Care Centre, which has been operating since January 2014.

It is set to join a growing number of Gold Coast investments by the group.

“Our latest investment aims to share knowledge and technologies from Japan, while preserving the centre’s strong community ties and values,” Mr Nagata said.

“As a company committed to sustainable development, we are focused on generating liveable communities in which childcare plays a critical role.”

Similar to the company’s Robina childcare acquisition, all staff will be maintained, including its Japanese-speaking staff, with Quality Child Care Management director Katrina Pridmore serving as the local manager.

The Southport centre will cater for children from six weeks old to prep.

In Japan, moves by the Government to expand childcare support and enhance English language learning have created growing interest in potential collaborations with overseas centres such as the Gold Coast investment.

“Global Sky intends to foster tie-ups with Japanese childcare centres as part of its push to deepen Queensland-Japan ties,” Mr Nagata said.

“A number of Japanese childcare workers will receive training at our Gold Coast centres, while we will continue the current Japanese lessons taught to children at the Southport centre, as part of our intercultural communication efforts.”

Global Sky is a sustainable development group with operations spanning community development and management, environmental engineering, clean energy, infrastructure and lifestyle business in Asia and Oceania.

The company is actively working to foster stronger links between Australia and Japan.

In March, Global Sky’s Queensland Business Centre in Tokyo celebrated its first anniversary, announcing plans to further support Queensland SMEs through marketing and e-commerce initiatives.

‘Iron Chef French’ Sakai says ‘oui’ to Winetree’s Australian wines

Dear Valued Clients and Friends

TOKYO, Japan, May 14, 2015: Legendary Japanese ‘Iron Chef French’ Hiroyuki Sakai has gone Australian, helping launch Winetree’s premium Australian wines to discerning Japanese palettes on May 14 at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo.

The move by the ‘King of Iron Chefs’ to say “oui” to New World wines reflects his love for Australian produce, having spent a year and a half learning his trade in Australia before rising up the chef ranks in Japan, a country with more Michelin-starred restaurants than anywhere on the planet.

Ko Nagata, Managing Director of Tokyo-based Winetree’s parent company, Global Sky Group, said the event was part of a series of promotions for Sirromet Wines in Japan. Recently recognised as a 5-star winery by James Halliday, Queensland’s Sirromet Wines has won more than 790 prestigious national and international awards since opening in 2000.

“Sakai-san is known for his refined tastes and we’re confident he will help put premium Australian wines on the map in Japan,” Global Sky’s Mr Nagata said. “With a sophisticated and expanding customer base, Japan offers an enormous opportunity for Australian wine makers, which thanks to JAEPA [Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement] can now compete on a level playing field with other New World suppliers.”

Implemented on January 15, JAEPA has eliminated Japanese tariffs on bulk wine, while the 15 per cent tariff on bottled and sparkling wine will be phased out over seven years, helping boost Australian wine exports which were worth $41 million in fiscal 2014.

Japan is Australia’s sixth-largest wine market by value and volume, with wine consumption growing among younger generations as part of a shift away from traditional wines. According to industry sources, JAEPA’s tariff cuts could help Australian wine increase its Japan market share from 4 per cent to the 14 per cent enjoyed by Chile, which benefitted from a 2007 free trade deal to become the second-largest wine importer.

“Global Sky acquired Winetree in late 2014 in anticipation of the successful conclusion of Japan-Australia trade talks. We’re now focusing on promoting Sirromet and other James Halliday five-star rated Australian wines in Japan, with the aim of expanding the premium market in the world’s third-biggest economy,” Mr Nagata said.

“Winetree also is supporting Japanese entrepreneurs and investors to invest in Australian and New Zealand wineries and vineyards, in collaboration with Austrade and New Zealand Trade & Enterprise,” he added.

In addition to the Australian Embassy event, Winetree has undertaken promotions in Queensland’s sister state of Saitama Prefecture, as well as Tokyo events organised by the Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ), Austrade and Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ), supporting Sirromet’s promotions to Japanese sommeliers.

Winetree has also participated in gourmet events related to Tourism Australia’s ‘Restaurant Australia’ campaign along with organising monthly wine evenings with musicians, and is planning a new concept in winery/restaurant for Japan.

“Winetree is grateful for the support of our friends at the ANZCCJ, Austrade, TIQ and New Zealand Trade & Enterprise. We have also utilised Global Sky’s Tokyo network, which includes the Queensland Business Centre in Kamiyacho, with its own dedicated marketing and support staff,” he said.

Since launching the Queensland Business Centre in 2013, Global Sky has rapidly expanded its investments aimed at fostering stronger business ties between Australia and Japan, including childcare, property and other investments, based on its philosophy of developing liveable communities.
