Childcare boost for Central Qld as Global Sky continues expansion

Global Sky Group has broadened its Queensland community investments, announcing today its acquisition of Central Qld Childcare’s four childcare centres located in Rockhampton and Yeppoon.

Consistent with its current Queensland childcare centres, the Tokyo-based company plans to enhance services for the benefit of the local community, employing local staff and management while drawing upon its international experience to add value.

The former Central Qld Childcare operated four centres, located at 20-24 Cedar Avenue, Yeppoon; 83 Tarangaba Road, Taroomball; 21 Bruigom Street, North Rockhampton; and 202 Thozet Road, North Rockhampton.

The centres cater for children ranging from as young as six weeks and up to school age, offering educational programs based on a nationally approved learning framework as well as having a range of outdoor environments for structured socialisation and added learning.

The new centres add to Global Sky’s current Queensland childcare centres at Southport, Robina Town and Mudgeeraba, which were its first such investments in Australia. These add to its recently acquired centres in Adelaide, South Australia, which together with its centre in Whitianga, New Zealand, now comprise 10 centres across Oceania.

Global Sky’s Managing Director, Ko Nagata, said the company’s expansion into Australia’s beef capital of Rockhampton and nearby Yeppoon would provide new opportunities for both local educators and children.

“Global Sky has a philosophy of developing sustainable community hubs which add value to the local community. By applying our local and international experience, we will seek to ensure the highest possible outcomes for children at the centre, including obtaining the top rating under the government’s National Quality Standard,” Mr Nagata said.

The company’s successful redevelopment of its Robina and Southport centres led to enhanced quality ratings from the Queensland government. Global Sky has also fostered tie-ups with Japanese childcare centres and teachers as part of its push to enhance intercultural communication, adding the knowledge gained from the world’s highest quality service culture to the innovative learning practices of its Oceania centres.

Demand for childcare services in Central Queensland is forecast to rise in line with continued population growth. Currently home to 87,000 people, Rockhampton’s population is expected to expand by nearly 29 per cent to reach 113,000 by 2036.

Nearby Yeppoon, which is located 38 kilometres north-east of Rockhampton, is also expected to expand based on its tourism and other industries, being the gateway to the Capricorn Coast.

In Japan, Global Sky Education operates an English language school in Kanda, Tokyo, providing a range of educational services tailored to Japanese businesspeople, casual learners and children, including educational exchanges to Australia as part of its “Hello Kids” program involving both parents and children.

“Having made our first Australian childcare centre investment in Queensland, we are delighted to be growing our network in the Sunshine State, our home away from home. With our current business ties with Queensland encompassing education, food and beverage and the Queensland Business Centre in Tokyo, we look forward to building even stronger ties between Queensland and Japan,” Mr Nagata added.
