Winetree’s ‘Terra Australis’ brings best of Australian food, wine to Tokyo diners

Tokyo diners can enjoy gourmet Australian food and premium wines following the Australia Day opening on January 26 of Winetree’s new “Terra Australis” restaurant and bar complex in the heart of the Japanese capital.

Situated in the upmarket district of Sendagaya, the new premium wining and dining establishment features a restaurant, bar, function rooms and roof terrace. Developed by Winetree, part of the Tokyo-based Global Sky Group, Terra Australis gives the city with more Michelin-starred restaurants than anywhere in the world a new taste of Australian sophistication.

Terra Australis’ Australian flavour extends from the kitchen to the table, with head Chef Koji Fukuda having mastered his craft at Australian celebrity chef Luke Mangan’s Salt Tokyo. The restaurant draws upon the finest and freshest local and Australian ingredients, offering a contemporary fusion of styles reflecting Australia’s multicultural culture with elements of Asian, British and French cuisine. This includes world-renowned Australian beef and lamb served by Mr Fukuda, who is also an official Australian ‘Lambassador’.

The wine menu reflects Winetree’s experience as an importer of premium Australian wines, offering the best Australian wine selection in Tokyo. This is highlighted by premium wines from Queensland’s Granite Belt by Sirromet Wines, which has been recognised as a 5-star winery by wine critic James Halliday, having won more than 800 prestigious national and international awards since its opening in 2000.

Global Sky Managing Director, Ko Nagata, said the new restaurant complex would help cement Japan’s growing love for “clean and green” Australian produce and top-quality wines such as Sirromet.

“Japan’s famously sophisticated consumers have made the nation a paradise for food and wine lovers. We are proud to introduce the very best of Australian gourmet food and premium wines to the world’s biggest city,” Mr Nagata said.

“The ‘Great Southern Land’ has long attracted Japanese holidaymakers and businesspeople and with Terra Australis, there will always be a piece of Australia and its sunburnt land’s produce in the heart of Tokyo.”

Terra Australis officially opened on Tuesday, January 26, with the opening reception featuring dignitaries including Mr Tak Adachi, Queensland’s Trade and Investment Commissioner for Japan, and Ms Julianne Merriman, Austrade Trade Commissioner, Tokyo.
